Illustrated Guide to erecting a Tipi.

Stage 3: The Skin.

Once all the poles are in position and tied the skin is then added.  This is done by rolling up the skin and tying it to a pole. We call this the lifting pole.  This pole is then slotted into place and it also lifts the skin up to the tipi frame.

The skin is then un-wrapped all the way around the frame.

This picture shows Geoff at standing by the lifting pole whilst John unravels the skin around the frame.
