Sweden

NOTE: The Information contained in this section is believed to be correct. Laws and regulations change all the time and the webmaster of this site does not state that this list is in any way exhaustive or correct.  The information is provided as a guide only and official sources should be contacted to confirm any points you find.

Classification:

A vehicle weighing less than 350 kg and with an effective cylinder volume of less than 50 cc or less than 1 kW power and a maximum speed  of 45 km/h is classified as a moped class 1 and can be driven by a person having either a driver's licence for car OR motorbike (both 18 year limit) OR a tractor  licence (16 yo) OR a moped type 1 licence (15 year old and above). Most are  either two or four wheelers (Aixam seems to be the most popular).

A moped class 2 has a top speed of 25 km/h and may have two or three wheels and must have pedals. It can be driven by anyone above 15 years and doesn't require any licence. There is also a class for legacy mopeds that have a  top speed of 30 km/h. Most are two wheelers except for the transport  mopeds. The moped type 1 licence once given can not be taken away, but you can lose your other licences (Including Car) if you for example you drive under the influence or get caught speeding. The moped license is usually taken during a two day theoretical class, no driving test is required.

In general three wheelers are labelled as motorcycles and  depending on their weight and engine volume they are either "light" (up to 125  cc) or "heavy" and require a motorcycle licence. The Messerschmitts are considered to be a heavy motorcycles.

The A licence gives the right to drive a motorcycle (the license is restricted to 25 kilowatt until the holder turns 21 or has have the license more then 2 years),
A1 a light motorcycle (125 cc and 11kW (14.6bhp)) and
B cars and 3/4-wheeld motorcycles and that does not exceed 3500kg
