Lambert

The Lambert is considered to be the first petrol-engined vehicle to built built in the United States of America in 1891 by John. W. Lambert.   From 1904 all production Lamberts used a friction drive until 1907 when they were replaced by a shaft drive. The Lambert was powered by a small 2-cylinder engine and featured a pair of Lucas "Motor Acetyphote" acetylene-gas powered side lamps.  Since 1904 these had been specifically designed for motorcycles.  Production ceased in 1917.
