Frequently Asked Questions.
I am asked many questions and most of the answers you will find on the Kangoo web site. Here are some of the questions I am asked:
Q) What are they?
A) Kangoo Jumps, low impact rebound shoes.
Q) Are they Moon Boots?
A) No, as mentioned above they are Kangoo Jumps.
Q) What do they do?
A) They absorb 80% of the impact from running in conventional running shoes. So they are superb if you have a dodgy knee or poorly ankles and they also are wonderful for your hips, lower back and spine. Infact there are lots of medical studies to say how good Kangoo-jumps are for rehabilitation. Have a look at the medical reports on the Kangoo web site.
Q) Are the easy to run in?
A) They are indeed, and I have tried most surfaces, roads, pavements, gravel and grass and they were fine. Not so good in thick mud though - but then I guess that’s what wellington boots are for!
Q) Where did you get them, and how much do they cost?
A) You can get them from the Kangoo Jumps web site. Prices for each model are displayed and you get a 5% discount by clicking on one of my links.
Q) How Much! I’ve seen those in the supemarket for £9.99.
A) Trust me, at first glance they may appear similar but they are not Kangoo Jumps. If you are lucky they might last a week. Kangoo Jumps will last for eons and should anything break, you can buy spare parts for them.
Q) Are they hard work?
A) They are actually a pleasure to run in and so you do find yourself wanting to run a little bit further than usual. They do certainly work you out though. I find an 8 mile run wearing these exhaust me more than an 8 mile run in my trainers. What I have noticed is that when I get home, my recovery time is amazing, a few deep breaths and that’s it. It’s as though I’ve just run down to the chip shop and back at the bottom of the street.
Q) Would they help you to loose weight?
A) Definately; Infact I lost so much weight and so quickly that my girlfriend started to complain that I was getting too thin and started feeding me copious amounts of food and beer to fatten me up again. As a result I now run about two times a week doing about 5 - 6 miles (instead of 8 miles every other day) and find that that keeps my weight where I want it to be so I can carry on eating everything I see. :o)
Q) How quick would I lose weight?
A) I guess this depends from person to person. Usually during winter I don’t run for 3 - 4 months and so pile on a few pounds - my winter padding. Then when I start running again, I will start off with a 3 mile run, then a 4 mile run three days later and then in the second week a 5 mile run followed by a 6 mile run. Within two weeks, after just four runs, I can notice a difference and my girlfriend does as well and starts to worry I will get too thin. From the third week onwards I run 5 - 6 miles two times a week. In addition to the running, for the first five - six weeks, I also cut back on snacks until my belly is flat. Once it is, I can then eat what I like as the running keeps it where I want it and stops me losing too much weight.
Q) You’re tall aren’t you?
I don’t know who these ladies are but they are a lot nicer to look at than a photo of me in my Kangoo shoes.

This is me with my Kangoos on - though I don’t run in jeans but at least you can see why I thought the photo of the ladies above was a lot nicer to look at!!
A) Not as tall as you think, I’m usually 6ft 3” but I’m probably around 6ft 8” with the shoes on .. and shrink to about 6ft 5” each time the shoe compresses as I take another step.
Q) Why wouldn’t you let me have a go?
A) Because I have huge feet and so they would not have fit you. Besides, my socks would have been all sweaty so would you really want to put your nice clean foot in there? Incidently if you own Kangoos and do have sweaty socks, the inner boot is completely washable.
Q) How high can you jump in them?
A) I don’t know, I haven’t tried, but I don’t think they will let me clear tall buildings in a single leap?
Q) When you run, do they bounce you along?
A) Yes, I guess they do.
Q) Do they make you run faster?
A) I’m not sure, but then I tend to overtake other folks I see jogging so must be jogging a bit faster than the average person ... either that or I have long legs so take bigger a larger stride. Some one once said to me, “I saw you down town boinging along, you go quite fast don’t you?”. I was most surprised, especially as they saw me towards the end of my run. By that point there is steam coming out of my ears and all sorts.
Q) Do you have “normal” running shoes ?
A) Yes, I have two pairs of Nike trainers for running, but whilst they feel superb when compared with other trainers, they are like wearing house bricks compared with the Kangoos as the Kangoos absorb so much impact.
Q) Do people laugh?
A) Some do but that’s life. What should be noted though is that around 80% of people I pass, especially teenagers, they are amazed by the boots and comments like “I want some”, “Cool”, “Wicked”, “Where did you get those” are pretty much the norm. Some people even start to run / cycle alongside me asking questions about them or even pull up in a car and ask about them. I am actually amazed that given such a positive reaction towards them that everyone isn’t wearing them. Maybe I’m just ahead of a craze that has to yet to happen ... and I am sure it will.
Q) Can anyone wear them?
A) Indeed they can, there are several types of Kangoo-Jumps to choose from so there is a pair to suit any one regardless of your age, weight and size.
... and the question no one ever ask.
Q) Who are you and If I want to visit all your web sites, where do I go ?
A) My name is Elvis Payne and you can visit my other web sites at www.elvispayne.com
Q) Why sort of Kangoos Jumps have you got?
I now have two pairs of Kangoo Jumps. Originally I bought the KJ XR2 X-Rebound Kangoo jumps but found that after a few runs the bottom shell snapped. Kangoo-Jumps replaced the shell so I managed to get them repaired but I soon discovered that at 15.5 stone, I ideally needed the KJ5 Pro2 model as these are the “extreme” model. The folks at Kangoo-Jumps were great and replaced my broken shells with no question and I then decided to upgrade to the KJ5-Pro2 model. I was told rather than buy the whole boot, I could just buy the shells and springs and bolt them to the boot. I did this and also added the a coil spring to each boot to make compression even harder. They have been superb and with hind sight, I should have bought this model in the first place. I do slam my left leg down quite heavily when running which probably doesn’t help so for some heavier folks, the KJ5-Pro2 model are good. Having said this, before I changed over, I was testing a prototype KJ Shell 6 shell used in the new KJ XR3 X-Rebound boots and I could not break that. That shell outlasted the

standard ones so I am guessing that the new KJ-XR3 boots are going to be really good for heavier people to.
Kangoo Jumps are tough and durable though I decided rather than have Kangoo Jumps that were an allsortment of colours (as a result of mixing KJ5 shells red springs) with KJ XR2 ( with yellow sole plates) I’d get a second pair as well. So I got a pair of KJ Pro 2 with a matt finish. They look much better being all red and black and I prefer the matt finish on the boot part.
Q) Do the shells break then ?
A) Yes they can do but don’t be alarmed. Like most things they only have a definitive life but the Kangoo web site sells numerous spare parts to keep you Kangoo-Jumps in top condition. Some folks can have Kangoos for years without breaking a shell where as others may break one after 300 miles. It is one reason I upgraded to the KJ5 Pro2 shells. I’m heavy and so they suit me better. Kangoo Jumps are improving the shells all the time making them stonger. I know the shell on the new KJ-XR3 model are really strong as I tested one of those and could not break it.
Q) Would you recommend them ?
A) Most definately, if I didn’t, I would not have taken the time to create this web site about them. For me they mean I can enjoy running without having to worry about injuring my knees any further. To go back to running in “normal” trainers now would feel awful.
