Punta Licosa, Italy: Mount Vesuvious Shots.

Photos taken with WQV-10

Whilst in Italy I climbed Mount Vesuvious which is the only active volcano in Europe and is set to erupt again in approximately 2008.  It last erupted in 1944 but is perhaps most noted for its eruption in 79AD that buried Pompei

2 hour coach drive from Punta Licosa to Salerno

As far as the coach can go - the rest of the way is on foot.

Taking a photo seemed a good idea at the time?

Climbing the last few feet.

Quick rest!

Looking up to the summit of Vesuvious

Hmm - no jumping into the volcano!!

View from the top. The gray at the centre of the photo is that lava flow from the 1944 eruption.

Punta Licosa

Not to clear but looking down into the vast crator of Vesuvious knowing that in a few years time this is the last place on Earth you will want to be!!
