The Reliant Regal 3/25 - 3/30 and Reliant Ant

Reliant Regal 3/25 - 3/30 (21E)

In 1962 a major step forward was taken with the Regal 3/25.  This had a unitary construction body of re-enforced glass fibre. Glass-fibre was moulded in two major units (outer and inner) and then bonded together and bolted to a steel chassis.  The body came in both a Saloon version and a Van version. Power came from a 600cc water cooled four-cylinder engine which helped give the Regal 3/35 a fuel economy of around 65 mpg.  In 1965 the Regal 3/25 Super was launched and sold as "a more luxurious" version of the standard 3/25. The Regal 3/25 Super received new streamlined frontal and rear styling, refined trim, a new dashboard, repositioned hand brake and enlarged door pockets. In addition it also came in a new range of six colours. Minor changes were made again in 1967 and a Regal 3/30 was also introduced. Reliant's production of the Regal was so popular that it in 1969 the fifty thousandth 3/25 model was delivered. The one hundred thousandth Regal was manufactured in 1972.

In 1970 a Regal 21E Saloon and Van was also introduced.  The 21E was so called as it had 21 extras fitted at the factory. The extra 21 items were:

Reliant Ant (TW9)

Along with the Regal, Reliant also developed another 3-wheeler for export to Greece and other Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries. For a number of years Reliant had been exporting a Regal type pickup which was essentially just a Regal van cab on a chassis with the rear of the chassis being left bare so that it could be built up overseas.  The success of this was such that in 1967 a new pick up type vehicle arrived in the shape of the Reliant Ant.  The Ant was initially designed for overseas use but due to its versatility also found an English market.  The vehicle had a one piece fibreglass cab and a range of bodies ranging from a tip up van to a snow plough.  It was powered by a 700cc alloy engine and whilst the overseas vehicles had a carrying capacity of 10cwt, British models were sold with a 16cwt weight capacity.  The Ant continued to be made until 1987 and was also produced under licence by the Mebea Company in Greece and BTB Engineering in the UK
