After selecting the model I preferred the much awaited day finally arrived when the prototype model finally arrived. This was hand painted and had hand applied decal’s on it. Straight away I took a photo of it and added it to the web site and interest in the model was very encouraging as people started to reserve a model in preparation of it reaching production.
After taking the prototype to my bank manager she seemed to think that it was a great idea for a loan and after a few questions the funds were deposited into my account. I now had the finances to order these models and continue the project on my own.
By the end of June 2002 a cheque had been sent to Lledo and the models were now on order. I decided at this point that I would include a number plate on the models to help lift them a little and help detail them more. As all Lledo Reliant models have pre 1972 black number plates I decided to be different and have a white number plate on the front and a yellow one on the back. In 1972 number plates in the UK changed from the black sort with grey or silver writing to the white and yellow sort. As the Regal was produced up until 1973 this meant that it would be in keeping with the vehicle but I would need to choose a 1972 number plate and so I chose ELV 214K. This was ELV for Elvis, 214 as this was my dad’s old racing car number and K as this was one of the year registration letters for 1972.
Extra details on the model increased the cost along with extras like a promotional box and an outer postage box for each one and I was planning two sets of certificates. Based on the cost and the RRP of current Lledo models being sold in shops (RRP £9.99), it was calculated that the 3-wheelers.com models would sell for £8.99 each.
